Getting to Britanny
There are a variety of ways to travel to Brittany.
By Sea
Most people travel to Brittany via ferry from numerous ports in Ireland and the UK such as Cork, Rosslare, Dover, Portsmouth and
Newhaven. Ferry prices vary enormously but luckily the Internet is a great place to shop round for cheap ferry crossings. The main ferry
companies include.
A special mention must be made of Speedferries. The
crossing is quick, around 35 mins. The drawback of this crossing is that it takes around 5 hours drive to Brittany. Of course since the crossing
is so cheap you can always stay in an hotel on route and still save lots of money. The drive is also very easy as its uncrowded motorway
all way.

When booking so its wise to shop round and look for special offers. Also consider the distance you may have to drive when
you get off the ferry. It may not be worthwhile saving £50 if you have a much longer drive when you get off the ferry. Also consider
travelling on the ferry as a foot passenger and hiring a car when you get to Brittany. This could work out a much cheaper
option. The disadvantage is that you cant bring back much inexpensive beer and wine !
Approximate journey times by car to the cottage are :
* Roscoff - 2 hours
* Dinard - 40 minutes
* Rennes - 20 minutes
* St Malo - 40 minutes
* Cherbourg - 2 hours 40 minutes
* Le Havre - 2 hours 50 minutes
* Calais - 5 hours 20 minutes
By Channel Tunnel
Eurotunnel's car carrying service runs via the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone to Calais/Coquelles. Taking as little as
35 minutes platform to platform, it is a fast and exciting way to France and beyond. The service operates 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year. Its around a 5 1/2 hour drive then to Brittany. The motorways however are mostly quiet so the drive never seems
so bad.
By Air
Many budget airlines such as Easyjet and RyanAir fly to various towns and cities throughout France. Flights can be bought
for ridiculously low prices and with a flying time of as little as an hour, this can be an inexpensive and quick way of
travelling to France. Car hire is also relatively cheap in France making this option a viable alternative to taking your own car.
